what size solar panel do i need for this
« on: October 11, 2006, 08:06:38 PM »
Hi

i'm going to get a DC round fan and i want to run it off a solar panel for my solar heater and not sure if i'm doing the math right .

the fan is 12 volts DC the amp rate is 1.420 so i come up with 17.04 watts .

but should i have a panel that has at least 1.42 amps output ?

thanks

Is your fan going to run 24/7? If so, yes.

Actually more, unless your sun also shines 24/7.

In my location (tropical island), I would need a 100 Watt panel to run a 17W load.

I'll guess a fan for a solar heater is not running 24/7.

If it is only running when the sun is shining, a 1.42A PV 'should' be enough, but I would go a little larger.

A 1.42A PV is rated about 25W.

There's solar powered "roof" vents for sale on a lot of places--one of those might work.
