Mixing Panels
« on: October 16, 2007, 10:41:54 PM »
I have 3 panels rated at Voc 21.56 Isc 8.2 and one panel rated at Voc 43.3 Isc 5.23.

Can I wire them in series and put them through an Outback MX60 to charge a 24v bank.

Wire run is 150ft what size wire and what would be the likely output in amps.

yes, you can but you will be throwing away half of your power, because in series your panels will be limited by the ones with the lowest Isc. your 3 150 watt 12 volt panels will be limited by your 180 watt 24 volt panel. your Voc will be 108, but amps will be around 5, for 83*5= 415 watts instead of 630 watts

Vmp will be around 83 volts

150 ft run would require # 8 wire to have 2% loss

running just the 3 150 watt panels in series you would have 450 watts, voc 64.5V Isc 8.2A, Vmp around 50 volts and run #6 wire and have your 180 watt panel to use elsewhere.
