The US Navy Balao type submarine (1944/45) was fitted with 4 four Elliot Main (Electric Motors) two on each shaft, with a total horsepower of 2,740. While submerged, these motors were powered by two massive (each cell weighing 1650#) 126-cell batteries (in series) capable of delivering 5,320 Amp/Hrs each.

Ron, Thanks. Talk about not needing a charge controller. You could put a hundred wind gens on that thing and the battery still won't notice it's being charged.

Ya sure, but is that a 24V or 48v system?  

It would be nice to find one cheap anyway if ya had a place to put it and a semi to move it. I wonder what the life of those actually are?

Sounds huge until:

2.10 * 126 * 5,320 = 1,407,672 whr

2,740 * 746 = 2,044,040w motor.

At full throttle the sub will run for 0.68 hours.

Not so big after all.

Would run my house for 1.4 months.

I served in the navy submarine force on the last diesel boat commissioned in 1959 by the U.S. Navy.  We had 256 cells per well and 2 wells 504. Each cell weight  was one ton 2000 lbs. I helped change them out while I was on the boat.

sorry my math was a little off it is time for bed it was 252 cells per well. We also carried 108 thousand gallons of diesel fuel
