Rechargable batteries
« on: March 21, 2005, 01:37:42 AM »
Hello everyone. I was just wondering if I could have someone's opinion on rechargable batteries for storing energy collected from wind power (wind turbine). I was wondering what kind of battery is more preferred. So far, I have been researching and been getting alot of information on lead-acid batteries, and metal-air batteries. How is one preferred over the other and are there anymore wind turbine rechargable battery options?

Ros I use lead acid because of their forgiving nature, but there are as many opinions as there are people.

Cost, how much time you can spare to maintain them, type of charge controller etc all come into it.

 cycle an aleged 500 times

 recharge very fast

 and use inexpencive metals

looks cool, but it also looks like they are parked??

I really like the concept but from what I am reading these arent really batteries. You don't recharge them, you replace part of them to bring them back up to charge. These are more along the lines of a fuel cell.

"A fuel cell is actually an electrochemical power reactant. Electric potential is produced when the fuel (zinc), which is introduced into the cell, reacts with oxygen."

I think I will look for some reasonably priced lead acid batteries myself.

i looked hard to find rechargables

if i have to put Zinc pelets and vinegar in it

that isnt my opinion of rechargable

all fuel cells Potentially could be recharged

by creating fuel IN them

but most of the schemes for doing that

are in IPO OPM theorizations

and having 2 Zepplins to fill with seperated

components (H & O)  just doesnt pleas the neighbors :-)

I haven't thoroughly investigated them yet but you can check them out for yourself . You could also check into making your own nickle iron bateries with lemin juice in them. I am going to experement with them myself when i can.
