Battery Additives
« on: September 14, 2005, 10:20:10 PM »
Ok...I tried to post this question before and would like to hear from anyone that has tried some of these battery additives like "battery equaliser" or the product that "Battery Doctor" franchises are selling.  They claim to help revive "dead" batteries and reduce sulpahation.

I have recently bought a 8 oz btl fo the former and have added the prescribed 50ml per cell to my T105 batts.  They were supposedly at only 80% AH capacity and yet are only 2 yrs old.

I have almost completed the required charge/discharge at 50% for the 5 times and we shall see.  Will Post results within the week. But would be nice to hear comments from others that may have tried this product or something similar and hear what their results were.

I must say the testimonials on their website http://www.batteryequaliser.com

are fairly substantial, appear genuine and come from reputable companies.

rgds,

I'm guessing that you'd get the same results from five 50% discharges without the additive.

i think it works.

i put that stuff from jc whitney in every battery i have.

december it will be 11 years.

even in the new stuff that's the first thing that goes in.

but:

i just got a bad battery in one of the older cars.

it got a shorted cell.

so out of 20 walmat cheepys, 4 quads, 4 motor cycles and 6 cars, van and trucks batteries that's not to bad.

and i don't desulawatchmacallit but my controler is probly set a lil high.

this isn't a controled scientific test so i could be lucky.

here in december we'er getting 2 new quads.

i think i'll have one with and one with out.

we'll see what happens.

i called poison control and thay said it was cadmium sulfide.

i have seen dead bettteries come back to life with out charging and are still in use today.

so that's what's going on here.

Hi,

Try this web site:

http://www.shaka.com/~kalepa/desulf.htm

Apart from a lot of info on "zappers" and how to build them, there is also a section on EDTA, an agent to loosen the sulphation. I cannot comment on the product you are referring to, but subscribe to this desulphation site and ask the question there.

By "zapper" I mean desulphation pulsers, which hook up to the battery and get rid of the PbSO4.
