how many amp hours are these?
« on: May 23, 2006, 06:03:20 PM »
I am trying to work out what the capacity of these batteries is likely to be.

They measure 30 x 30 x 16 centimetres and needless to say very heavy I don't know actually how heavy.

quarter meg photo removed see his files to look at it

apparently the electrolyte was completely changed a year ago after they had run dry and then left uncharged since then!

I checked the voltage which read .9V per cell.

I have left them on charge for the last 24 hours. connecting them in series for 12 volts and set the charger to charge at seven amps.

They are still taking seven amps, and the voltage now reads 6.7 per battery.

Is this a good sign?

They have been gassing almost from the word go is this normal?

How do I know when they are fully charged?

Changing the electrolyte is only a good thing if the person doing it knows what to do. Try taking it off the charger and let it sit for 24 hours or just put a small load on it to remove the surface charge and then let it sit for a bit. If the voltage goes way down you are probably SOL until you desulfate if it's even possible. 7A is nothing for a battery of that size so a lot of gassing is not a good sign. Check the SpGravity after the battery sits for a bit after charging and let us know what it is.

I forgot to mention that those look like floor scrubber batteries so they are probably something like 200Ah or more. Pretty tough bats when new and kind of like bigger T-105s.
