Down wind turbines - lack of in DIY
« on: August 07, 2009, 07:00:48 PM »
Hello all.

I have been thinking more and more about down wind turbines.

And wondering why they are not as popular as the upwind design in the DIY world.

I am aware of some of the downsides, wind shadowing from the tower e.t.c, but wouldn't it be easier to construct without a tail - Furling control seems the only answer I can think of.

Proven wind turbines seem to thrive on the design after all.

Thoughts welcomed.
