propeller terminology
« on: June 29, 2004, 12:21:29 PM »
Hello.

Could someone enlighten me on the standard propeller terms such as 34-24; 26-20, etc. Presumably at least 1 number refers to the length or possibly diameter. Probably useful to know what these terms mean so that they can be successfully applied.

Thanks.

Propellers are sometimes referred to as 'Screws' - Normally the first number is the diameter and the second is the 'Pitch' - the distance the propeller would travel in one revolution - 'Without slip'.

I hope you are referring to boat propellers.... although the prinicples and numbers are similar on airplanes.
