Appropriate bearings?
« on: July 24, 2004, 10:05:20 AM »
The pic below is of a small trailers wheels and bearings.

I plane to use one end for the yaw bearings and the other for a PM ALT.

I would like to now if cutting the shaft in the middle is the best thing to do with it considering my plans or whether it should be cut 1/3 to 2/3?

Hello. If in doubt cut it in half you can always cut off some more.Thats a great idea, when I saw your post I grabed my pencil and went to drawing, to see what might be possible..... Thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Jon what I like to do is make sure replacment bearings and seals are readily avalible. I would suggest you take the bearings numbers to a local supplier and check. You don't want to spend money on a project if you can't replace the bearings later.

They should work all right for a small project if they are in good shape. Good luck RobC

Bloody beautifull grass !! don't get any muck on it ! The bearings are great ,just clean them up on someone else's grass.

I actually used a hyundi front wheel drive wheel assembly .Cut down and trow all the unnessary steel away ,you then have a drive shaft to connect to whatever.

Looks like the hubs have been left to the elements for a while the wheel bearings

will be a question look for machining marks on the spindle and if they are not hammered  go for it you can usually find a bearing house that can match them up . Seals are a diferent mater . seals being a comman replacment item may have stocks from the epuip manufacturer .
