6000 RPM, 1000 Watts, 90v dc motor as generator
« on: December 29, 2004, 08:39:04 PM »
Hi all,

I just found a 1000watts, 90v dc, 6000 rpm motor for 10$. Of course I bought it and now wonder what I will make out of it.

There are 3 alternatives:

  1. make a windmill with it (I spin it by hand and get around 2 volts)(if I calculate it quick quick, 6000 / 90 * 12 = 800 RPM... too fast for a 2 blade prop?)
  2. link it to the micro-hydro setup like the old one on the otherpower page. (How will I ever get 800 rpm out of this I wonder... this is not pelton..)
  3. make a single rider electric dune buggy... They are using 600 watts motors in hi-performance electric scooters... 1000 watts should be good with chain and sprockets... I would need to get 7 small sealed batts on board.

I know there are many posts on ametek motors but could not find the required information. Thanks for your advices.

Someday, I will cast my own genny head in aluminum

www.tlgwindpower.com has information on this motor.

Where did you find it so cheaply, btw? $10 is a steal.

Unless you intend to build a high speed machine 800+ RPM is very high, belting it 2 to 1 or even better 3-1 is a better option, though direct drive is better if possible. You could use it a drive motor to test other generators and alternators.

With tax it was 15.20 Canadian... about 10 $ us...

That was in an Addison shop where they sell surplus.

Looking at it, I think it is a 500 or 600 watts...

gee... that was the address...1500S 1000W Logan... lol Was I excited!

Its made for electric scooters it seems.

Here are the info:

Triple Play Motor

Part No.: 117085

Voltage: 90 volts - DC

RPM: 6000

Rotation: CW

It's made by GS electric which was bought by Amtek lately. Maybe some digger could find info on it? Thanks

Indeed, I could use that to test the "one day will be done with" windmill I promise myself to finish. At 12v I would get about 700-800 rpm which is plenty. I got quite all right with casting aluminum now and the possibilities are endless... I have to cast that darn thing. Well, that got me going... thanks
