puzzled

i have a motor out of a rv heater.i can hand turn it and get 1 v dc power. i switch to ac on my meter and get 2 v ac.thought it should only put out dc.(dc motor?)

 heater had switch to run off ac or dc.(with transformer ? ) or is motor wired for both?

 The motor is DC however your meter set to AC will see the pulsing of the DC as a small AC voltage.

  A slide From north to south will creat a Zero point with voltage above and below depending on the direction of the coil winding of coarse . The Brushes connect the different coils on the armature that is wound in the same direction so you'll see a alternating current as they pass through the  the field magnet north south etc. Put a diode in there and a cap youll see what the no load will be.

What you see may not be what you get.  Some low cost meters will also indicate DC as an AC voltage.  This can be checked by measuring a battery on AC.  To remove DC component, put a 1 uf non electrolytic capacitor in series with the lead.
