10' 48V PMA finished
« on: April 16, 2005, 04:42:27 AM »
Here it is as of now

you wouldn't believe that one extra nut on one of the studs was all it needed to balance the blades.  Allthough I painstakingly sanded each blade to make them the same weight.

Reinforced my stator brackets

The box with all the wiring and heatsink in a good position for cooling

back view

The blade tracking is only 13mm out (I'm happy with this much)

It needs more coats of Linseed oil, but I'm waiting for it to dry.

Our house and solar array that the PMA will assist.

Cheers

Richard

Very Very nice! It's a nice feeling of accomplishment when its at this stage right? Are the blades Cedar? What windings did you use? Be interesting to see the stats when you get it up and flying. Keep us posted.

Looks great. You were wise to re-enforce those stator brackets with mounting studs that long. Hope it performs to your expectation. Nice pictures and quick to load too.

The blades are Oregan pine, the windings are 0.8mm 270 turns, 5 phase 10 coils, 12 mags on each rotor.  I hope it performs well as I won't know untill I construct and erect a tower which is next on the list.

Another inspiration. I really like the "Tail" on the stator And the way you covered the wiring right down to the junction/diode/heatsink box. A real beauty indeed. I hope it exceeds your expectations.

Looks like you've got quite a RE-installation going there... I estimate about 2kW of PV? And hot water and soon the wind turbine.

Do you have some more info on the setup? Is it island or grid-intertied?

I think the Homepower magazine would be quite happy with a story from you. (www.homepower.com)

I would like to know how anything can be made in a shop that clean!

No greasy stuff, no sawdust, no junk parts in the corners...

Just kidding.

More info would be great,

"I estimate about 2kW of PV?"

They are 80 watt each 24 panels (1920kW) so nearly I guess.

They put out over 80 volts with about 25 amps in good sun.

I would be glad to give one.

We are not on grid power here the nearest pole is about 2 k's away.

The inverter is a Siemens 2kVA inverter/charger/booster backed up with a 4kVA diesel generator all automated.

8 6volt century yuasa 535 amp/hr batteries.

That was the first thought I had, too!!

Nice setup.  I'm getting there.  Slow but sure, I'm getting there.

Just found a possible source for batteries.  Now just need to find a local source for wire.  Then need a schematic for a good inverter.

And of course to convince the wife that this is all a good idea!!  LOL
