Helicopter blades
« on: May 12, 2005, 05:08:55 PM »
If someone is planning a BIG gen, I may be able to work out a trade or something,  I need magnets for a 12 1/2" disc machine, and maybe 11' blades, or may cut these down?  Any interest?  Thanks, Wiley

Sounds BIG.

Presumably these do not taper and have a constant angle of attack down the length of the blade which is not ideal as I understand it for a wind turbine... on the other hand they will have good strength and a lovely aerofoil profile. Sounds like a good project.

Do you have plenty of space? Please post the pictures when it is in progress.

Sounds interesting!  I'm game... where are you located?  I can use them for some other projects I have going.  Do you have any pictures of them?  Are they thin solid extrusions or hollow?  What do they weigh?  I would imagine they have a symetrical airfoil correct?

  Ted,

You just might!  I need another project like I need another hole in my head but I could put them to good use!  I started to get the "Lenz" turbine out and was digging out my notes on the thing and found another one of my sketches of a prototype VAWT that I had forgotten.  Based on my "free wing" design with the exception there is a certain amount of control added to the wings.  I gotta know if it will work so I'm off in another direction at this point...

Another one I want to try ( a small one ), 3 spinning cylinders as wings.  I don't remember what it was called but read about it in an artical somewhere.  The cylinder spinning in the oposite direction of the wind creates a massive amount of lift.  I don't know if it actually works but its just one of those curiosity things that won't let go until I do it...

You probably saw a drawing of a "Flettner Rotor". There are descriptions on the net, just search for it.

 Good luck

Ok I have some big mags and want VWAT blades symetrical and strong. The mags are 4 1/4 w by 3  1/2 L  by 3/4 semi pie shaped. When I hold them pos or  pos or neg to neg I cant get them any closer than about 3 or 4 inches.
