The wood 103 was built at first as an alternator, after it performed well, they decided that it warranted making blades and they were put on it. It has wooden bearings and Dan stated that he didn't think it would hold up long in high winds. The wood AX has metal bearings, and although it is not flying, I got to take a look a the body of it when I went out there in April. It would likely be more durable than the 103, primarily because of the bearings. The welded ones made from pipe that they have been building out there are probably an order of magnitude more reliable. They have a furling system to protect them from high winds, and much heavier wheel bearings. Rich Hagen
