What a difference a tree makes
« on: January 23, 2009, 09:09:28 PM »
Hi

We recently had a big wind, about 15 ft from my mill in a neighbours garden was a tree, well more of a big stump with a couple of branches sticking out the top. The neighbour saw the tree move in the wind and as it overhangs where my wife parks her car, prudence ruled and the tree was dropped.

I now have clean wind from well over 270 degrees, I would not have thought a bit of a tree stump could upset so much wind.

In the big wind I watched my turbine turn out just over 400W and it sat at the rated output, 200W, long enough to impress me, and that was before the tree came down.  I have also put my first solar panel up.  Probably never be grid free for power, but even producing enough power to light my house is a satisfying feeling.

Yep, it's not "how much" so much as what you do with it.   B^>
