$9.99 tread mill mtr.
« on: March 01, 2005, 07:06:00 PM »
Was there yesterday to get encoders for a cnc mill retro-fit and saw this item.

Tread mill motor 2.25 HP 260 v dc, pm, 5100 rpm, item #10-2167, $9.99,   3,380 in stock. It would be good as a hobby cnc servo motor or as a small direct drive wind mill generator for 12 volts. Cheaper than a tape drive motor. www.surpluscenter.com  in Lincoln, Nebasksa

This is it.

Didn't make any real progress with it.

I'll add...

Bad.

Doesn't look like it will hold up outdoors 'real long'.

Kind of sloppy tolerances compared to AC induction motors.

Could use more steel around the outside, the flux leaks some.

Costs more to ship 2 than the motors cost.

Good...

Seems to work fine. (First thing I bought that did!)

All the bad stuff can be fixed easy, except for being a little 'sloppy'.

Bearings, not bushings.

The flywheel is a good start for a hub (?).

Cheap.  So if it does what is needed, get 10 now and be set for many years.

I would say it is a real good starter piece.  I'm happy so far.

I bought the same motor for my vawt project a couple of weeks ago. I get 12.5 volts spinning by hand. Im using a couple of 12vdc lamps rated @ 1 watt for a load right now. Not too bad for a 10 dollar setup. Im hoping to start a diary soon on my vawt project, Im trying to start out with something small, maybe 100w or so. Good luck with your motor let us know what you come up with!

I would like to get some blades. Slow, high torque/low wind, kind of self limiting or designed to stall.  Something that will do 12v in a low wind, but peter out in a higher wind.

I don't have a place to put too much power. So I don't want it!  10w in a light wind, 50w in a hurricane and it would be perfect.  It seems I always have to be different.
