Opinion/Dealings with an Ebay Genny seller?
« on: September 05, 2005, 04:15:39 AM »
Hi guys,

I'm looking at selling my Air403's and getting a much larger wind generator.

While looking on Ebay, I spotted an interesting gentleman who sells a 2.2KW generator with a 7 foot home made blade.  Now I'm not thinking this thing would generator anywhere near that amount in our gentle breezes, but he seems go be a decent guy and he seems to know his stuff.  He's the guy who sells a "NASA" designed blade.  He's from the SF bay area in California.

Has anybody had any dealings with him?  Good, Bad?

2.2KW from a 7 foot blade?  There are some here that know the formulas but that seems like an overstatement of abilities. . .

Math guys?

I agree.  The motor he supplies is a "3hp, 120VDC, 3350 RPM".  We typically have winds in the 5-15 mph range and the though I'm fairly happy with the Air's with non-factory blades, I want to get the most bang for the buck.  I guess more surface area is best at low wind speeds?

How much is a gentle breeze?

3-4 mph?  My wind guage doesn't

register unless it's 6mph or over,

therefore I call anything under

a breeze......

I could be mistaken but I believe the way he's doing his math to come up with 2.2K is taking 3hp X 750 w/hp = 2250. IN a perfect world at 3350 rpm., well maybe in another demension! This accounts for no loss no nuthin, and even though I haven't been doing this long (compaired to some of these guys) I don't believe I've ever seen or heard of a wind genny doin' 3400 rpm. Now as far as the wind power goes here is a ruff calculation 7'dia blade, 20 mph wind = 880watt(approx) useable power in a 20 mph wind(somebody please check my math)even this doesn't account for various losses. Well nuf said. You get the idea. BS to the max!!!

Question: is this the guy on Ebay that's selling a similar 600w model for $399?? Phionixwindpower Ithink or Arazonawindpower. Love those blades, look like 2X4's with rounded tips:->
