anemometer

hi, this is my first post, I want to install an anemometer on my farm to collect wind data velocity and direction, can someone here help me with drawings in making/errecting GI pipe mast, thanks for an early input

You need to supply a little more info. Like just how high is this mast supposed to be ?  Do you already have the GI pipe, so are we constrained to a certain diameter ?


Actually, I would give strong consideration to buying a tower for a wind turbine like the airX, and using that for my anemometer.  They are faily cheap and the used tower will have resale value, where the home made mast will only have scrap value.

Shawah, the anemometer mast needs to be 30 feet which is standard measuring height.


In my experience a stand alone pipe will need to be at absolute minimum 1 1/4" x 20' + 1" x 10'. as well as guy wires at the 20' mark as a minimum.


Anything less will see you measuring the ground wind speed in strong winds, that's after the pipes have doubled over.

I am thinking to take readings at 30 feet, I have the GI pipe 1.5 inch and 2 inch, bit confused to calculate the length of guy wire, a sketch will be appreciated
