Windsock for hbar speed control
« on: February 05, 2006, 08:03:32 PM »
With all the talk about sails recently. The idea just popped in my head. Not sure if it would work, seems too easy.I know we dont have to many hbar builders out there YET.

Hi vawtman, so what do you mean by windsock? Are you talking about the ones you see at the airport to determine wind direction and speed?

If that is the case, it seems like it would be some unwanted drag to me, I might be wrong. Why not just build a brake that is triggered by the windspeed?

Hi Reg,Something like them.I was just thinking the faster the turbine would spin the air preasure in the sock would increase thus control overspeed.Ill test it.Did you get a chance to check out the pics I sent?

Hi vawtman, I just checked out your pics, the filesize was pretty huge on some of them. I hope you don't mind but I reduced the filesize of them and have uploaded them here so that you can right click on each one and save it to your harddrive and then upload it to replace the over 2 meg each pics. Pretty cool VAWT. What blade profile are you using and did you do any comparisons with a symetrical profile to see which one works better?

Hi Reg,Thanks for helping with the pics.I didnt study airfoils. That profile just made sense to me after testing just about everything except Eds newest turbine which is a neat unit.I was one happy camper when in a 10mph wind my 2x4 rotor with shelf brackets were overcome by it.I just hung them up there and walked away not expecting anything.Im planning on adding two more blades this summer for better balance. Two blades at over 120rpm will develope vibration in the tower.Tsr around 6.
