Looking to buy Ametek 30VDC
« on: April 17, 2007, 02:41:35 AM »
Thanks to all the knowledgeable people on this board I believe I have enough info to start building my first wind generator... all I need is the motor! Does anyone here have one they would like to sell? Looking for an Ametek 30VDC as they seem to be the best for a first attempt.

Thanks!

Ranz;

I think I still have a couple of them out in my stash. I will go look and see tomorrow. If I have one I will post some pictures and we can work something out. More interested in seeing them used than a profit. I know I can beat Ebay prices. I bought both 30's and 40's and not sure which are left. I have sent motors out to a couple other guys on the board.

Cheers.

That would be awesome! I don't want one for free but I also don't wanna pay the folks on ebay $100 and then $25-$30 on top of that for shipping.

Thanks

 Hi TomW

If you still have an extra ametek for a wind genny e-mail me, I would like one also.

I'll Buy it or maybe trade with you if you want.

Of all my motors here I don't think I have an Ametek yet for testing stuff.

I have an original Ametek 30V. I didn't notice this was a 4 yr old thread although I had my suspicions when a poster was calling the $100 ebay price for them high.

Trust me, I counted both of my 30V, twice.
Set them next to each other, and they don't LOOK like $710!
Picked them up, at the same time, and they don't FEEL like $710!

Been a while since I saw a 99V for sale, but...
I saw 99V versions go for over $700.
A 99V with air-x knock-off blades and a hub went for over $1,000.

In perspective of what they cost new, it is still cheap.  They are good precision made motors.
Somewhere online, someone posted a scanned catalog page of Ametek motors.
Seems like a standard size new Ametek listed for about $650 back when they were still being made.  Early/Mid '80s?  Adjusted for inflation?
Yikes.

There is a chap on Ebay selling 1HP GE ECMs 1050 rpm , new units , for 133$ or obo. He has over 10 of them.
I made him an offer and got one, they are new, in box.  Mine is already up and flying, however i need to tweak the phase wiring.

Cheaper than $355

Well the $20. US
I paid was worth it when it first powered up a couple 1156 bulbs
using ceiling fan blades, (very bad idea buy the way!)
But the $0.99 plus $21. shipping
for my 28 Lbs "Stepper",
made by  "Controlled Motion Inc"
That just about pops an 1156 when finger flip spun
is still my "Baby"!
Little 4' blades that will spin the 30V
do not even start to turn the stepper.
6' and 8' cheezy fiberglass blades worked about to good
test tower taller than 15' a very good idea when you get past a couple feet in blade size!
(about got hit on the top of my head using ceiling fan blades in good wind,
little pot metal elbows fail very fast!!!!!!!!!!!)
can't have it all I know
 but hey
Might as well try!
 ;)

$0.02
$0.02

Sheesh, when did Ametek motors get so expensive?

I've got several laying around, one is a big 99v unit.

A long time ago!
Consider them your 401K.

I have seen 40Vs go over $250, 30Vs go for over $400, 50Vs go for near $500, and...
<drum roll>
99Vs go for ~$750 (adjusted for a few extra included parts).

On the flip side, I saw a complete 99V turbine (99V Ametek, hub, blades, furling mount, and more) go for ~$350?
I darn near bought that one myself!

Wow, insane ... I have a fine collection of like-new 50-V Ameteks, but I'd laugh all the way to the bank if I could sell them for half that!

Pretty sure there is a woman on ebay selling new 36Vs and 50Vs buy-now $275, plus $50 S&H.  And they are actually selling.
