20' turbine offset from main bearing??
« on: July 27, 2007, 02:57:20 PM »
Hi Guys,

For those building the 20 footer, I can't seem to find an exact measurement for the distance between the main bearing (30" of 5" pipe) and the axle stub housing (6" of 6" pipe). Dan's description says 10" offset of 4" pipe but it doesn't state whether it's center to center or ???.

Can someone tell me what the center to center distance is between the axle stub and main bearing?

Cheers

Paul

10" between centres sounds reasonable to me, but check with Dan.

yes - that's right.

I get very scientific about things ;-)

if its a 20' diameter blade (each blade is 10' long) I offset the alternator 10".   I make the tail boom 10'

I figure the tail vane should be at least 10 square feet.

Seems to work out OK...

If I ever figure out what's in the box then maybe I can think outside of it.

Does that scale, i.e.

 - 1" offset for each 1' of blade length

 - Teil boom length same as blade length.

 - Area of tail vane = (blade length)^2 / 10

?

Thanks guys!  I picked up all the remaining steel required on Friday and will be cutting and welding today.

So, 10" center to center, would make the 4" pipe about 5" long, accounting for the diameter of the 6" pipe and the 5" stub

Got it!
