5/8 inch oil/water seal?
« on: May 23, 2008, 01:59:53 AM »
...for our generator motor with a 5'8" shaft.  I have lost my mentor and do not remember the tolerances between seal and shaft.  This seal is off a 95 Cadillac Seville, Northstar engine, cam area.  Does anyone have any thoughts?

By the way, thank you to Flux and everyone else that has posted with comments and help to our postings.

Thanks again,

Pauline

Oops - Bob said I should have put the measurements in the post.

The inside of the seal is .576 and the shaft is .624.

Are these tolerances OK?

Thanks again.

Most lip seals have a considerable nip. Your .576 sounds reasonable for a 5/8 shaft.

Sometimes for wind these seals do add enough drag to hinder start up, they generally get better with use.
