There have been plans posted and on a Google
search you'll find how to make an inverter from
microwaves.

Let me get this all in focus...you want something cheap...pronounced Free...easy to make
readily available...just change a couple of wires around and presto! You have an inverter!
Ain't going to happen....LOL
I'm just joshing with you ...
but seriously you can make a fairly hefty
inverter from a microwave if you have enough
time and ambition.
They had inverters back in the 50's that
changed 12volts to 110vac ...and that was before
transistors...they had a buzzer that hummed at
60 cycles between a dual set of points making it
alternate.....actually on car radios because
part of the radio tubes needed higher than 12
volts to operate ...somewhere around that time
and just before transistors they did come out
with radio tubes that worked on 12 volts.
