Alternator or Generator?
« on: February 14, 2006, 07:26:53 PM »
I am trying to figure a way to attach an alternator or a generator to a machine that has a 2" shaft spinning at around 1000 rpm's. Hopefully, I can use the alternator/generator to bypass the main power (for at least part of the machine running time) which is a 3 phase 50 amp service and have the machine generate its own power from the spinning 2" shaft.  I assume that I will have to rig up a belt and pulley system to increase my rpm's to around 3000.  Does anyone have any input on whether this project is feasible or not?

From what I have read on the otherpower website I gather that I need to be using an alternator for this project.
