Replacing Standard Lightswitch w/ Motion Control
« on: April 09, 2006, 09:59:32 PM »
Hi,

First off, I'd like to say, "Very cool website; I've learned a lot."

My roommates have rejected all of my attempts to "train" them to shut off the lights in our house when they leave the room. This especially applies to the bathroom and the pantry. I've thought about replacing the standard light switches with motion sensor switches. However, I'm worried that the motion sensing hardware will sap more energy by running all day than the lights being on for ~30 minutes too long.

Also, since my house was wired w/ "industrial" style light switch boxes, I'm concerned that I might not be able to find replacement switches that will screw into our boxes. I thought about this technology but I don't know if that system will also sap more energy than just leaving the lights on for an extra 30 minutes.
