AC DC conduit
« on: April 25, 2005, 06:41:16 PM »
Some advice needed, please.

What are the issues, if any, for running 240VAC single phase and 50VDC in the same 2" conduit?  They will be feeding waste loads for two different hydro systems.

I have heard that it is not a good idea due to the ac creating an inductive current into the dc wires. I am 99% sure the elecrtical code says it is a no no.

If it were me I would run them seperately.

Hi Douglas.

In the U.S.A. this is allowed within the NEC ( national electrical code) provided that all wires have insulation rated to the highest voltage i.e. 300 volt insulation and that splices of the different systems are physically seperated via seperators within junction boxes or made in seperate junction boxes.

There will be no problems with induced voltages etc.
