auxillary relay on a charge controller
« on: July 20, 2007, 09:28:00 PM »
hi everyone.  i have built a 24 foot turbine and i am planning to fly it soon.  i am still need to upgrade my batteries  but my main concern is a controller.  those  things are expensive.  i need something like the outback 60. that things about $1000.00

i will buy it if need be but i cant see why not to use a smaller controller to turn off and on the coil of a large relay.  anyone tried that before?

I am a retailer and you can get an MX-60 for less than $500 delivered.

I use the aux relays on my mx60s and in my inverters (VFX3648) to switch several diversion loads with SSRs

Outback's MX 60 is not good with turbines, it's made for PV.  I got my off grid stuff for a bit over 1/2 of what they sell it for off there site.

I have seen smaller turbines using the MX 60 and they talked about having problems with it.

I have never tried it.  I'm solar and hydro with my off grid house.

Ghurd has such a controller that is simple and easy to use. Here's the link to his circuit: http://www.ghurd.info/dc.html
