Inverters for wind and hydro turbines
« on: June 07, 2008, 08:45:48 PM »
Hi,

I am looking for an inverter for a Ginlong 1800 wind generator. We will be connecting this generator to an experimental VAWT.

Unfortunatly, the Ginlong company does not make a matching inverter for their 1800 generator, only a 1500 and then a 5000.

I have found Windy Boy, in conjunction with windy girl I may get results.

I have heard of PowerOne (once Magnatec), but I can't find any one selling them.

Other than these two, I haven't found anything else.

any suggestions?

Our generator is nominal 1800, max 2100. At 5 m/s I get 300RPM wich puts me at 250Vac on the Unloaded Voltage curve and 800w on the power curve. Nominal 1800 watts is at 500RPM ~400Vac

Call Jenny Ong at PowerOne.  Here is her number

Maybe she can point you to who is selling them.

Have you built this VAWT, and it gives you 300 rpm in what amounts to an 11 mph wind?  I think before you spring big bucks for an inverter you should set up a testing regime to find out how much power you can really get out from the VAWT.  If you are spending University money forget the last comment and buy the 1500 watt inverter, as it's not likely you will ever see all of that 1800 watts.  But really, you should give us more information.  Like, is that a 20 meter diameter VAWT?

yeah 300 rpm at 5 m/s does sound a bit too amazing to be believable. i only get about 75 rpm at 5 m/s with my VAWT.
