Washing machine's motor

does anyone know why a washing machine's motor has 5 wires coming out of it?

speed and the ability to reverse the motor if i am not mistaken

In case you never thought about it,  Common washing machines have a trick gear box. Turn the input shaft one way and the output it rotates back and forth. Turn it the otherway and it locks up to spin the drum.

Put power on and you will see it runs different speed on different wires.

It work as generator as it is, if you start by giving it power. I do not think it will run in different rotating directions.
