Trace/Xantrex C35 charge controller meter out to serial port?
« on: December 02, 2004, 01:03:42 AM »
I noticed that people on this forum have determined the purpose of each of the wires for the Trace/Xantrex C series charge controller temperature sensor.  Has anyone figured out the data format of the meter lines?

I've hooked it up to a serial port and from 115-4800 bps the data stream is visible, but it doesn't look like any of the speeds are a match.

The Xantrex Link 10 battery meter feeds out comma delimited values.

Can you provide a snippet of the data output? You're not seeing any patterns at all?

The C35/C40/C60 doesn't have serial a port connector option like the Link 10.  It has a rj12 connector meant for a meter made by Xantrex.

Here is some of the stream I captured with the C35 hooked up.  Its in hex.

300bps

------

ffff ffff cfce f7e6 eeef f7ff f7ff ffbf

5eff ffef f7ff e6ff e6cf cff7 ffee ffef

fff7 ffff ef7e ffff f7f7 cfe6 77e6 eecf

ef7f ffff ffbf dfff ffff f7ff e6f7 cecf

cf77 7fee ffcf bfff ffff ffef ffff f7ff

1200bps

-------

8cfc fefc fefc 8e8e fefe 8c8e 8e8e fefc

8e8c 8e8e fe8c 8e8c fefc fc8c fe8e fefe

fefe 8e8e fcfc fc8e fcfe fefc fe8c fefc

fefc 8e8e fefe 8e8e 8e8e fefc 8e8c 8e8c

fc8e 8e8e fefe fe8e fe8e fcfe fcfe fe8e

2400bps

-------

e0f0 f0f0 e0f0 f0e0 e0e0 f0e0 f0f0 f0e0

f0e0 e080 f0f0 f0e0 e0f0 f0f0 f0f0 f0e0

f0f0 f0e0 f0f0 f0e0 f0e0 e0f0 f0f0 e0f0

e0f0 f0f0 f0f0 e0f0 e0f0 f0e0 f0f0 e0f0

f0f0 e0e0 f0f0 f0f0 f0e0 f0f0 e0f0 e0c0

At 4800bps and up nothing was read.

Could someone with a Xantrex CM or CM/R take a look at the pc board and tell me what it says on the crystal?

couldn't one just run this output through a hex dumper and see some useful alphanumeric values?
