Where to find shunt regulator schematics???
« on: January 18, 2005, 11:35:31 PM »
I need some good site where I can find shunt regulator schematisc, but if possible with PCB layout scheme.

There are many sites that offer some info about that, but does anyone know some really good site???

Thanks!

I don't think that there are any P.C. board layouts but there are plenty of shunt regulator schematics right here in the archive. Do a search you'll find them.

If you build a shunt regulator, I hope you choose a switching regulator type design.  I'm working out the design of one that uses a SG3524 pulse width modulation chip and drives two fets up to 50% to distribute heat.  This only uses a dozen components compared to the complex 555 design that appeard a couple of days ago.

I searched all over this site, ( i haven't find so much schematics)  and I am a bit confused about all that.

I am TOTAL beginner in wind energy, and I bought windmill plans from Hugh Piggot.

For the first project, I choose a small one ( 120 cm / 125 W), and I am allready collecting parts for a big one ( 2.5 m / 500W).

The only thing I don't understand is a shunt regulator, or dump load. I understand a basics of that circuit, but some other things are somehow foggy to me.

First of all, what type of shunt regulator is the best for my use?. There are puls type, switch type..., and I don't know what are the differences between them.

I got some ideas about what to use as a dump load, but I don't know where to begin in building the regulator.

In Hugh's plans, there is a scheme of one shunt regulator. It seems simple, and I believe I could build it.

It is based on two circuits ( don't have plans near me now, and right now I don't know what type), and relatively small amount of other components.

I would appreciate if someone could give an advice for that.

Best regards!
