CNC Programs for Windmill Blades
« on: March 14, 2005, 10:03:51 PM »
my brother-in-law and I are cutting out all the jigs for the stator, coil wrappers and magnet positions on his company's CNC machine.  We are wondering if anyone has a program for creating blades with a CNC for hugh's machine.  I believe we used design cad

i have thought about this also

i have access to a shop bot at school but

we only have vector cad/cam to program it

i have a friend who has master cam which does 3-d programing

but he doesnt have a shopbot post

i found a shopbot post on mastercams website but

it doesnt work with the version of master cam he has

ive decided now to slice the blade sections in eighth  inch intervals

and just have different depths for each section of the slice of the blade

it will be tedious im shure but its the only way i can figure it out how to do

it

but i believe someone else on this board cnc'd some blades i forgot who though

I have a homebrew CNC machine using a ShopBot controller.  I use a CAD progam and Vector for programming cutting files. Blade profiles can be cut with a 3D modeling program and Vector.  I actually cut the blade profiles with a flat bottom bit using those two programs.

The most time consuming and difficult thing is designing a proper blade with the proper airfoils.

I am looking at buying a shop bot and would be interested in carving out some blades as well. Anybody that has one already how do they compare to other routers. I have been using a router master for 5 years and want one of my own.
