Desulfator for small lead acid battery?
« on: December 23, 2005, 07:22:35 PM »
I recently came into posession of a Sony BP-2 sealed lead acid battery. It is 17 years old, still factory sealed and has never been opened. Presumably the plates are covered with crystalized sulfides after all this time even though it was stored fully charged to begin with.

The battery is 4 volts 500 ma. Does anyone know if there is a small pulse charger reconditioner out there appropriate for this? I've seen several schematics for simple ones but don't have the time to take to build one. I'd rather buy a commercially available desulfator or pay someone for a home made one.

I'm using a Battery Life Savor at the moment, so hoping that will work good.

I'll post a review when I'm done, but being 250ah batteries it could take awhile. :(

Seems expensive for an unassembled kit. I mean how much do the components cost? If it were already assembled, that would be a different story. Yes it might only take 15 minutes to solder everything in, but $65?

Also, it says for 12 volt batteries but the battery I have is 4 volts.

  17 years old...even a sealed lead acid ...

isn't really sealed...it has one way vents from what I have read...you might have to add water

among other things??

        just a thought...
