10' wind turbine
« on: March 01, 2007, 06:41:39 PM »
Those of you, that have the newer 1x2x.5 magnet.10' turbines up and running,if you have the time, could you please describe your tried and proven control system for 12v or 24v machines? What rectifiers, controller, and diversion load works best for this machine? What works for you? There are excelent plans to build this machine but it's kind of a guessing game on controls. Trying to aviod a burn-out before I build by starting with the right components. Thanks.

I use a Xantrex C-40. They will work for 12, 24 and 48 volt battery banks.

How many watts can it produce? You need the info to setup a resistive diversion load.

Hi,

I use a Tristar 60 with my 48 volt 10' turbine.  The controller turns on a large steam boiler heating element, 30kw at 208v, much less at the 58 volts but works well for me.  The 10' DanB design can put out 1,500 watts easy in wind gusts.  At 12volt that is more amps that the std 35 amp rectifiers can handle easily and wire size for the rest of system will be large.  Much better to go to the 48volt version.  Any higher and the building inspector deems it grid voltage and lots more red tape.

Originally I tried a homemade dump controller but the relay soon burned up.  Trace or Tristar controller is cheap insurance to saving your turbine.

Enjoy
