You could try going to http://www.batterywholesale.com and clicking on brands in the section at the left called "UPS Replacement Batteries".  Clicking on a brand there brings up listings that show the number of batteries and the voltages of those batteries for different models.

You don't say whether you're looking at new or used, but this should cover both.  I've only had one experience buying batteries from them and it wasn't positive.  Most of the batteries I bought died within the warranty period.

Jon Miller:

If you want clear and concise suggestion it is best to GO INTO DETAILS, opposite to your thinking.

Do you need a UPS or do you need a DC/AC inverter 24 to WHAT VOLTAGE 115, 230, 460 or maybe 2400 volts --- do you see the point that may be illogical ( some of those voltages) but nobody in this group have a working Crystal Ball to know your thoughts and truly defined needs.

Since it is an OFF grid project then considerations for small motor starting needs should be covered, like for refrigerators that too many UPS can not handle properly.

Hello Jon Miller,

APC SmartUPS 1000 and 1500 UPS, both require 24v. All 120vac output.

Loaded watts is less than the name implies, check the data sheet.

I picked them up on eBay for less than $50 used including shipping.

Can be cold started, many will not. Nice feature if power is out and want it going.

Has serial link to PC, can control how it works, turn off the beep etc. (Panel too)

The efficiency is low when lightly loaded like 50%. Inverter would be better.

Why using UPS for off grid?

Have fun,

Scott.

Hi Nando, Scott

good point about the output voltages, its easy to assume you know what others mean as, in this case i have had the convasation so many times i take its a pre known.

Im after a 240 volt output model and the main reason for the use of a UPS is cost and cost alone.  That said please dont put me down for being a penny pincher, its just the use of a UPS is reallistic as in the UK there seems to be a lack of compatant dealers out there who have a constant supply of decent sine wave inverters.

I want to install a 1-2 kw inverter / ups as a starter as in this case i have not got the funds to pay for a £400 2kw inverter.  All going well the project will be up and running for a period for the owners to see that spending the extra £400 will make a big diffrence to the effiency of ther system.

I do intend in doing a dairy on this but time is tight at the moment as course work and exams loom.

Thanks for the help so far
