Wireless voltmeter?
« on: November 30, 2007, 01:38:03 AM »
I'm building a generator with an alternator and inverter with remote electric start. This way I can run things off the battery for a while without the engine running. Does anybody know of any kind of wireless voltmeter I could use to monitor the battery voltage?

Hi ArmedAndDangerous, as far as I know there is no such animal.  I'm assuming the remote eletric start is one of those automotive type remote starters, with the inverter at the battery bank and only a AC line running to the house?

I think you'll find monitoring the voltage manually to be than you bargained for if you are running your inverter 24/7.

You maybe better served, to use a regular generator starting module, it monitors the voltage for you and start the generator at the right voltage every time.

I ~think~ that James (3J) at http://www.aprsworld.com/  may be able to

help you out in this. I know he does remote wireless logging

stuff for wind, so this should be easy for him. Not sure of how or

how easily it is just displayed on the meter though.  I would think

that at worst case, a meter attached to the receive end would

accomplish that instead of a computer or whatever is normally

connected there....  maybe ???  It's worth a look and email or

question to James maybe though.
