Trace M1512 Schematic

If I am in the wrong section here please direct me to a more suitable site


I have a Trace Model M1512 1500W and after a vacation I returned and My Inverter / charger did not work. possibly lightning.  

Here are the symptoms



  1. ..No 120VAC feed through
  2. ..No Inverter
  3. ..No Charger
  4. ..No Power indications at all--Nothing comes on-No lights but remote has power to it
  5. ..120VAC is present at input
  6. ..12VDC is present at input
  7. ..Both Fuses are good
  8. ..No Relays are picked up as far as I can hear.


Circuit board  2510 Rev G


I of course do not have a schematic and if one exists I would love to get it.I do not want to pay $2000 for a new inverter as I can probably repair it for $10. It points to a logic circuit controlling the relays.


I have removed circuit board to get a closer look but nothing apparent

It is almost like there is a Master breaker in the unit but there is indication of one

Check the 5 volts to the microprocessor.  Should be an old Motorola (now Freescale)

6800 type.  If the uP is fried, you would be out of luck unfortunately.  That would be

the worst Scenario.  Otherwise, it could be fixed.

No 5V to the processor. maybe you could point me in the right direction to the 5V power supply with the enclosed link

I take it you have checked the fuses, I flew 30,000 miles round trip to South Africa once to change a fuse.


Is the PSU on board, if so check all the diodes, and any transistors, prefferably borrow an in circuit tester. after that try following the supply rails.  Without a schematic you are in the dark.

It looks like that microprocessor is in s socket.  If there is not 5 Volts, unplug the

micro, (carefully as to not bend pins too bad), and check the 5 volts again.  If you get 5 Volts then, the micro is most likely bad.  If still no 5V, you might just be in luck !

Rather than unplug the micro and risk possible damage, check resistance to ground with an ohm meter first. no short would indicate a problem upstream.  A short could also be the result of a capacitor shorting.

There are two TO-220 packages to the right of the board; if one or both of those are 7805's, those would be your 5v source. Input at left leg; ground in the middle, and 5v at the right leg. (Seen with the writing towards you.)
