Solar fan
« on: May 29, 2010, 10:08:32 PM »
Does anyone know of a company that sells a good solar fan for in windows.  Not a attic vent type.  I had bought one for a window, 12inch fan.  But died in 3 days got a replacement and that lasted 5 days and got another one and lasted 3 hours.  So I am looking for one that is gonna work.  Anyone have one or had any luck with a certain kind.

What do you mean by "solar fan"?

If it is something that has a built in solar panel,  most (all?) of that type of product falls into the novelty category.
Probably better off getting a 12V muffin fan a surplus 9~10V solar panel.

If you want it to work well, and last, pretty much have to build it yourself.
Usually that would end up being something with a small panel (like a VW PV), battery (7AH?), LVD circuit to protect the battery, and a simple charge controller (some old VW PVs have them built in, or can use a PB137ACV).

This one will run direct from a 3W PV, but at a low speed.  Goes like crazy with a 20 or 32W PV.

for a window I'd go with a 19 dollar box fan and a 300 watt inverter . Walley world has all.

Well I broke down and bought a small solar attic fan.  I was going to make a solar panel and get a fan to run off it, but last time I tried to make a panel it didn't go so well.
