Laminating EVA with a heat gun
« on: June 03, 2010, 05:36:21 PM »
I'm an inexperienced panel fabricator. Previously used 1/8" Plexi not-encapsulated cells with off-grade cells as prototypes but I'm slowly educating myself and want to embark on a larger (1600-3000 watt array) project. I want to either use EVA/EVA/Forget letter backsheet (TPA?) lamination or Sylgard 184. It seems tthat the EVA is more industry standard but I don't know how well the DIY method of fusing with heat gun works. Does anyone have experience, thoughts, advice? Thanks

You've seen my DIY build here http://fieldlines.com/board/index.php/topic,135691.0.html and I used EVA and a heat gun, I didn't do to bad for a first timer, but there are wrinkles everywhere, and i burnt through in some places but it's easy to patch it.  So far My solar panel has been outside for quite some time now, not hooked up just testing it for moisture, and so far so good no visual problems.
