10'er is up for testing
« on: July 09, 2010, 07:41:26 PM »

It starts up in the slightest breeze.
And still safe with a smallish tail.
The tower is doing fine and would
like to go larger.

Very good she looks great is that Rohn 45g or 55g looks like it should hold it up nicely

Yes a 45G with a hinge I made for tilting.
It works great.  I'll need to put a taller
tower stub up top to go more than 12'
but that's no problem now. I've raised
it and lowered it at least a dozen times
now since I put it up last fall.  I'm not
using turnbuckles and it hasn't been a
problem adjusting the guy's with a cable
puller. I don't know if they stretch or not.
I placed my tower points as accurately
as possible to avoid strain.  It works awesome.

what are you using for the gin pole?  do you have wider pics of the tower being raised?  i have a heavier rohn tower (freestanding, 5' base) that i want to tilt.  i was a bit worried about how the tower would react to being horizontal, but if your lighter tower w/ same turbine manages, there is no reason the heavier one shouldn't.

For my 65' 45G tilting tower I am using 30' of
3" schedule 40 with 3/8" galvanized guy wires
out 30' from the base.  And two single block
pulleys to pull it up with 7/16" cable through
a grip hoist.
This was just putting it up to build it in sections
I have since moved the lifting cables out to the lift block.
