Unlike down under we have many useful calibers in the home!

What you need? 30:06 (7.62 NATO), .223 (5.56 NATO) or something like a 30:30, 45-70 or the like?

I kill 3 or 4 deer a year with my .44 Magnum sidearm they are about roo size. Need to get a bit closer with the pistola tho.

I could loan you an effective weapon for that size beastie but not sure how the authorities would react to that?

Just some cable and a drag about their weight.

A self locking slide is easy to make from a washer with a cable sized hole on one side.

Probably illegal but very effective on raccoons, badgers and coyotes or nuisance deer.

Ah heck, forget all the normal hunting calibers go with the .17 remington....This buck was in the back yard, about 65 yards away when it taunted me saying " Hahhahahaha those tiny .17 bullets just bounce off me"
I was determined not to let the slander go unanswered...I aimed for a frontal lobotomy when the .17 remington barked.
 At 4000 feet per second I wonder if the deer heard "boom" or just "Ba"?
 Notice the hydraulic effect? Or is that deer giving me the "stink eye"?
 My friend has his finger just a mm or two above the hole

We've got a few roo's here on the farm but the missus won't let me have one for a BBQ  anyway around spring every year we seem to get a couple of young bucks in around the shearing shed facing off and at times it's a full on fight. Last year 2 of them were going hammer for tong when this huge male entered the fray, Man it was fun to watch and hopefully one year i'll get a u-tube clip to throw up. And yea the things ya see with these roo's when ya don't have a camera, a while ago I was grading the road by the house and this big male roo decided to use the same road until he saw me on the tractor. He thought the best way out was to try and jump a 6' fence but ended up with his back legs caught near the top of the fence and went over backwards, he was stuck for a minute or two and I near fell out of the tractor laughing 

On the smaller front the other night about midnight we were woke up by this almighty scream only find the young puddycat had a possum that got into the shadehouse to eat the wifes plants. The next morning all we found was a back leg of the possum so not only is that one less varment eating the plants but one young puddycat on the way to being night guard for the herbs. Last year I was in my shed when I heard a scrap going on and our older puddycat was fullon in a brawl with a fox.... needless to say the fox limped away...

   Freejuice-I agree about the smaller cal.'s.  I use a 22 Mag for varmint  shooting (mostly coydog).  Not as fast, but still quick.
The rimfire manufacturers seem to have their act together on loads as well, as it is pretty predictable.

12ga slug would do it, BUT since they are a fair bit away. I'm thinking a Marlin with a nice Bushnell scope will save on ammo and time. The hide could make for some nice slippers for the missus come Christmas.

hi,the taste is not like chicken,its like mutton.   here in mauritius,there is a season to hunt deer.   by the way friends, what is the difference between stag and deer? i believe noone knows the difference until some research work. 

one day while eating deer,myteeth striked a small metal bell.   i think it was hunted with a shotgun.

Thanks about the comments about the deer. Most of the time I shoot them with a M-1 Garand ( ala avatar).
 I noticed a Texas heart ( up their rear end) shot is one of the best shots on a deer. It displaces all the bullet energy inside the deer instead of punching two holes and wasting all that energy afterwards just punching dirt. They go down on the canvas fast. But dont unzip them in the normal way...they can be a mess and smelly! Just take the quarters, neck roast and tenderloins out  of them....dont get inside the abdomen, where the mess will be. Heck there is not enough meat there to fool with on a whitetail.
 I usually try for a texas heart shot, or the noggin' so they will be "unleaded" .
Once back in the 80's I was hunting a friends land here in SC and I shot at a deer with 00 buck shot. Well deer fliched and took off like a scalded dog...never did find it until next year. When I ran an arrow through a deer; as I was skinning it out I found a buckshot pellet underneath its hide. in the neck/shoulder region.
 Thus I only will use big calibers like Tom mentions for broadside shots. A 45-70 knocks them over like a bowling pin...never lost any game to the .45-70

I have no idea why humans would choose to live there!

Not kidding, a Down Under friend emailed me today with "just had to remove a 10 foot python from out of our living room".

A total of 3 raccoons and a rattlesnake would result in a "For Sale" sign out front as fast as my wife could say "I am staying at the Hilton tonight".
And she is not afraid of anything.  (except baby raccoons)

G this just happens to be the best part of the world to live, caught these critters eying off my spring veggies (OK the beginning of the spring garden) even the little one in the pouch is salivating......... It's the drop bears that are our biggest worry!

I think both have been visiting our apple tree we don't harvest apples from eating the fermented ground falls. Not sure I want to encounter a love sick, inebriated buck in the dark.
