My Solar panel
« on: October 09, 2010, 05:34:19 PM »

Finally got my first panel up and working. Includes 36 solar cells some chipped. I decided to buy split/chipped cells because i can get them awhole lot cheaper , and i probably will end up breaking alot anyways.

I have created a blog all about this. Check it out if interested www.diysolartechnology.com

Nicko congratulation on completing your first panel, much has been discussed here about home built panels, much I suspect by those who have never been there, but looks like a good start and wise in using low cost components. Solar panels life is measured in 20 year blocks so very hard to quantify home built success  but so far so good,

nice job !! so what were the specs once done..watts/volts on the chipped cells
i'm just as cheap..
i have been ebay buying for a few months  and only buy if i can get cells for less than$10 per 36 cells shipped.(3x6).
been many a late night to bid successfully but have about 220 watts stock piled and i'm under $75 so far..
just received my flux pen so time to start assembling myself..

I'm curious how the vendor shipped you those cells - can you explain or show pictures?  thanks.

Careful about the watt rating of those evergreen cells. I have 288 of the chipped/cracked/blemished ones soldered together in a 24V configuration and have seen only slightly more than 10A out of them in ideal conditions.

I just wonder if you can successfully mount all those cells you bought for less than $150 in materials, because here is the competition.
