Anyone heard of the Whispergen?
« on: October 21, 2010, 10:23:46 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this, so if the Mod's need to move it, please do.

A friend sent me this link, http://www.whispergen.com/ a while back. It looks like an interesting concept.

Basically, it's a Stirling engine that puts out 12 or 24 volts, and the heat from the unit can be used for heat as well. We don't need one, but I thought that it may be just the ticket for someone out there....

I have emailed their head office, twice, but have never heard back from them. I see that they're based in New Zealand so maybe someone down that way has heard of them?

I work about 50m from where they were designed and developed. The idea is a gas boiler, for domestic hot water and central heating, that uses the exhaust gas to drive a Stirling engine. They developed a novel system using 4 pistons that operate as both power pistons and displacers with a high pressure nitrogen/helium medium.

By all accounts they work well - they won a big contract to supply them to the UK so over to someone there...

Hi Robin,

Thank you for the additional information.

I learned something today and I haven't even finished my first cup of coffee!
