You could do what this guy did and put a brushless motor on his.  I know the Castle Creations controllers will send power back to the batteries, so you could set up braking quite easily.

Warning:  This guys has 20kw.... so there is way too much power.  The people on endlesssphere.com are much better at designing and building these things.
