The Half Plan -- Cut Your Energy Use, Energy Cost, and CO2 Emissions in Half

"We used the Half Plan to cut our total energy use, energy costs, and greenhouse gas emissions in half (and then some).

We cut our energy use from 95,000 KWH per year to 36,000 KWH per -- this is saving us $4,800 per year in energy costs, and has reduced our CO2 emissions by 18 tons.

The links below show how we did this, and how you can develop a set of projects to do the same -- or more."

Anyone try to do this? What were the results? What particular projects were effective?

Not their plan (though some of my changes feature on Gary's site!) but we cut electricity use by over 80%, natural gas use (for heating) 30% so far and still going, and we generate from PV twice the electricity that we use.

Great to see the Half Plan mentioned here -- I think its the best thing on my site, but it does not get near the attention it deserves.

We are actually down to a bit more than a 50% reduction on propane for space heating.  We buy all of our propane at one shot near the end of summer, and for the last two summers its been less than half as many gallons as when we moved into the house.  I think the 30% you mention is just the part that is due to the Solar Shed space heating project.

Sorry, that "be" was a "we" not a "he"!

I wish I had space for a solar shed: instead I have a motley collection of ground-level off-grid PV panels.
