Windy Season is Upon Us
« on: December 13, 2010, 10:19:19 AM »
I was recently looking at the online data from a 10kw Bergey windmill near my house.  I brought up the data and it said it has created over 2000 kwh in the last month, which is amazing.  We have had 20+ mph winds almost every day.  It looks like it has broken 100 kwh in a day 9 times, and it should do it again today.  The single day record I have seen was 238 kwh!!!

Here is a picture of the monthly total (47 kb)

I wish I still had my windmill up, but the motor will be transformed into a generator for testing our supermileage engines.

I also ended up donating a set of my windmill blades to my local high school so they could build a windmill.  They already have the magnets and the wire and have built a small prototype.

After closer inspection, the windmill is actually a ARE442 10 kw.  It has a 23.6 ft diameter.  For years I thought this was a Bergey 10 kw.

Their estimate of 24 MWh was a little off... more like 11 MWh / year.
