From reading the title, most people would doubt you could make this work, but after watching this video, I was shocked at how well this guy made this wood burning push mower

It starts out slower and after several takes, it goes faster and faster.

Pretty interesting concept.

Just needs a few more ponies into the blade and it might work 

Is that just a common 2 stroke or a 4 stroke gas motor reworked?

I would go with wood gas myself simply as it seems safer than a pot of boiling contained water in my face.

Great stuff to fool with.

He should have converted a reel-type mower like the antiques mentioned in the thread here. Those need less power to cut common lawn grass effectively. I mow my lawn with a push reel type. There is no way I could provide enough power pushing to make a rotary blade mower work properly.
