Will this solar CC work for my new wind system?
« on: February 15, 2011, 04:06:23 AM »
Hi everyone,

I have just completed a homemade wind generator using a DC treadmill motor. I can't remember the exact details of it, but it was 180v.  I was charging the battery with a solar panel, but because it is located at a remote site some vandals threw rocks at the panel, and it slowly stopped being effective at charging. (not remote enough, it seems). I deceided to build this windmill as a challange as well as a practical use. Because I was using a solar panel, I have a solar charge controller. (edit) I have a Juta 20 A.

The windmill generats DC and I have it connected to a 12V system.
I know that solar charge controllers are not always suitable for wind, but do you think this will work for me? It does have a dump load system, so that's why I'm asking if it will be suitable for my wind generator.

Thanks in advance for any help

The unit in the link is not suitable for wind.

It does not have a dump load, it has an LVD.  Completely different concepts.

180VDC treadmill motor based turbine is not likely to make more than 10 or 12A.
If you are comfortable with a soldering iron, my kit would be fine for that.

Yep, a soldering iron is no stranger to me. All sort of fiddling with gadgets and stuff is no stranger to me. :)

I've sent you an email about your controller. I meant to check the amps it produces. Must do that now. But like you said, it's unlikely to be more than 12 A
