#2 going to another neighbor

Here is the next one going out to another neighbor.

This one cuts in at 12.6 volts after the rectifier at 185 rpm
and is good for 60 amps.

Made to fit on 2" pipe.  I hope to help out the locals. 
Baby steps for progress is good.

How do you control the tail furreling on this?

The tail has my interest
 What kind of bearings  are you using on the tail pivot?
 Ill probably be building two or three units this summer and am collecting ideas.
Dose having the  generator and tail off all on the same side of the pivot have any effect on the rotation of the yaw bearing?

Isaiah the tail pivot is just pipe over pipe with 15 degrees of tilt.
9 degrees to the side and 3 degrees back and the platform tilted
3 degrees up welded to the yaw tube to give the blades more room.

ghurd and jlt,  for the 60 amps  that's the max so I want to stay under
that.  But since it will do it,  this one will get an 8' prop and just get
it to furl around 45 amps.

Yea a lucky neighbor.  I got 15 hours into this one.  The blades are
already at the cabin.  I'm trying to decide what my time and experience
is worth for pricing these out.  The motor was $50 with $50 shipping.
The steel was under $25 and the lumber for the blades about $25.

Well its off to the cabin to set it up and show it off.  Its performance
will sell itself.

The next one will be for someone with a 24 volt system.

Hey Mike....been watching and reading all the work you're doing. Dynamite stuff you've got going and very clean builds! After reading your postings, I've been running all over the Ebay pages trying to find the servo motors you are using. Found a ton of em but don't see any cheap ones but then again, I may not be seeing the "right" ones (don't know what I'm looking at???). Any how, you're doing a great job, just wanted to pat ya on the back. Been thinking bout doing something similar for helping to keep the back up system topped off, day and night. Great job!!!     Bill

 Keep looking on ebay .
 It takes a while to find one with the right spec's at a decent price.
We usually look at 3 or 4 pages then come back a few days later and look again.

Am I right with this math? Yes, Ghurd, I am trying math.
4000 rpm servo motor at 460 volts.
460/13.5 volts =34.07 Take the 34.07 and divide the rpm 4000. Comes to 117.4.
This will be the rpm for cut in rpm for 12 volt set up. Right?

Correct.  Correct math.  Sometimes?
They often do not work out as close as expected.  (my limited experience is with far smaller AC servo motors, the bigger units appear to be more predictable)

I believe using 13.5V is a bit low.  There is rectifier voltage loss that can be a considerable percentage.  Using 14.5 or 15.0V may be a bit closer with an AC servo motor.

Use at least 15 volts to figure in your cut in.
 12 .5 will bearly charge a battery

Hi, I haven't checked in lately.
Glad to see more intrust in the servo side of this sport.

The motor pictured above I had to go to the manufactures
web site to get the specs. All you sometimes get is a model
number.  But it tells you everything you want to know if you
want to get into these things.

This set up put out 10 amps most of the time and peaked at
around 40 amps at my place.  I kept adding weight to the tail
and it kept getting better with a 6' prop.  I think it could go to
a 7' prop,  anyway someone came up and had to take it to their
house to try out.

I'm working with them on a tower.  But as far as my cheap set up,
it's just about perfect.  I guess a longer and heavier tail boom on
the next one so I don't have to add so much weight to it (3 three
foot lengths of 1/2" rebar into the boom did the trick to keep it into
the wind and furl nicely and still put out 40 amps.  I'd like to go a
little further with it.

Anyway I have a few new neighbors now (thanks, sparweb ;))
to get to know,  I know they have a good wind site so they will be
calling.  ( I just set up an amplifier for the cell phone and it works!!)
