Fracking in the UK
« on: June 02, 2011, 03:11:21 PM »
Hi

They recently started Gas Fracking in the UK, after doing just two bangs in the shale they had to stop because there were two minor earth quakes in the area. Now it's all on stop until an independent research program has been carried out by one of our universities.

The good thing to come out of it is there is lots of publicity of the problems encountered in the US.  Of course the oil companies are saying the UK is different and they have our interests at heart.

Like proffits don't matter.

Brian.

I'm pretty sure the local paper said today that a local gas company left after drilling just one well.  They were drilling in an area that is well know for its farming and it closeness to Lake Erie (....the EPA should be stopping a thing like this).  There was some serious opposition to this whole operation.

In Texas they have been fracking for decades now. There are downsides.

My personal view is if folks are opposed to energy gathering procedures they should feel free to not use any of them. Also, they shouldn't allow themselves to use things made possible by those technologies. This would include, but not be limited to the Television, Radio and other signals generated by electricity. They shouldn't drive automobiles, fly in airplanes or take trains or buses. They shouldn't ride bicycles as those use tires made of energy products and usually ride on roads paved with, guess what, energy products.

Foods for the mentioned should be home grown and meats, killed by one's own hand.

Have a nice day,

Ron

I look at this way... there are good ways, there are bad ways, and their are ways in different areas.

Potentially polluting ground water.. probably bad.  Isolated areas ok.. member UK is an Island... its not Texas.. not even close.

You are right, Islands are expendable .... best be done with them.

I've been watching TV, listening to radio (and power hungry tube stereo) long before the gas and oil companies decided that they needed to inject hundreds of nasty chemicals into our ground water.

I understand that they can frack with simple water but it's a bit more costly and bites into their profits.

We frequently see commercials the gas companies run that boast about "CLEAN" energy but they don't mention the environmental impact on our ground water,  caused by both the direct injection of fracking chemicals and the leeching of chemicals from the open pits where they store "gray water".

I'll continue to suck power off the grid (and pay dearly for it), and at the same time expect that our "power companies" deliver power to me causing the least negative impact on our/my environment.
In my opinion,  there is no place on our planet where fracking should be allowed.

Anyone in doubt needs to watch the film "GASLAND"
